What does the term wellbeing mean?
The terms 'wellbeing' and 'wellness' are closely connected. Wellness is how you feel today; the state of your mental and physical self at the present time. Wellbeing is your future; a more long-term outlook on the quality of life, and the opportunities to expand on your present wellness.
Explore the wellbeing foundational pillars*
Wellbeing is generally addressed through six dimensions.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the practice of gently focusing your awareness on the present moment, without judgement or distraction. Mindfulness can help us enjoy the world around us more and understand ourselves better.
Sleep
Having good sleep habits, and getting enough sleep, is vital to our overall health and wellbeing. Being well-rested allows your body and mind to function well throughout the day.
Self-Care
Self-care is an ongoing practice of caring for yourself through activities and behaviours to ensure that your physical, mental and emotional needs are met.
Nutrition
Good food and nutrition are essential for overall health and wellbeing. Nourishing yourself can also be about learning where your food comes from, developing cooking skills and sharing meals with others.
Fitness
Physical fitness refers to having a healthy body and being able perform activities of daily living, including work, sport and leisure activities.
Connection
Connection is something humans crave, and being connected is important for our physical and mental wellbeing. Shared experiences can create meaningful connection with others, with culture and with the environment.
